An interesting article on Wikipedia. Just a thought, though. According to Nance’s dictionary, All Hallows Day was De Halan Gwav in Cornish. Is it possible that this became Anglicised to Halan Day, and eventually to Allan Day? Perhaps the connection with St. Allen, Bishop of Quimper, is later, established when the original connection had been forgotten.
